From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
